Personal Mission Plan

Rollings Hills Moravian Church is a community of faith whose members know Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord; grow in faith, love and hope; and show the love of Christ to others in word and deed.

"Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you."
(Matthew 28:19)

"You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandment hang all the law and prophets."
(Matthew 22:37-40)

"We are called into a Christian fellowship by the Lord Jesus Christ...and as members of Christ's body, the Church, to serve all people by proclaiming the Gospel and witnessing to our faith by word and deed."
(Moravian Covenant For Christian Living, para. 1)

"The Unitas Fratrum [Moravian Church] acknowledges its vocation to service...to bring the gospel to those who are far from God."
(Ground of the Unity, Essential Features of the Unity. "The Witness of the Unitas Fratrum")

One of the great blessings and privileges of the Christian life is sharing in the mission of Christ:
  •
  • to make disciples, and,
  •
  • out of our deep love for God, to share that love with others.

This mission happens in our daily life in several areas:
  •
  • Home and Family,
  •
  • Community of Faith,
  •
  • Work,
  •
  • Neighborhood and Community,
  •
  • Social Circle, and
  •
  • Our Stewardship.

These are our "mission fields". These are the places Christ puts us and the things he gives us to share the Gospel, to serve others, to make God's love known to everyone.

The words on the Moravian seal are: "Our Lamb Has Conquered, Let Us Follow Him." We are called to follow, to serve, and to make him known in our daily living.

Every day God provides opportunities to grow in our relationship to God and to share in Christ's mission.

Each member is invited to make a specific "mission plan" to act on those opportunities each year.

    The Mission

As disciples we are called to:

    "make disciples"

To share our faith with non-believers, inactive Christians, or religious "seekers" in such a way (by word, deed, and living example) that they are attracted to or receptive to the Gospel, and,

    "love God"

To deepen our relationship with God and express our love and commitment to God with our entire life (heart, soul, mind and strength). and,

    "love our neighbor"

To demonstrate in concrete, visible ways the love of God in serving and helping others, especially thos in need.

    Making a Personal Mission Plan

    1) Read the Bible and pray. Invite the Holy Spirit to show you the ways God is calling you to grow in your love for God and to share in Christ's mission.
    2) Look together with our Lord at the different areas of your life. For each of them take time to ask: How is God inviting me to:
  •
  • share in Christ's mission to make disciples?
  •
  • deepen and express my love for God?
  •
  • make the love of God visible in serving and caring for my neighbor?
    3) Write a few words or a sentence or two that describes your mission plan in each area. Be very specific. For example: "Witness to others" is a general goal. "Invite my co-worker (name), to worship with me." is much clearer.
    4) Pray. Review the plan you have made. Give it to God. Ask for the resources and guidance you will need to fulfill it.
    5) Offer your mission plan to God in a time of worship. Share part or all of it with a small group (or trusted others) who can encourage you in making the most of your plans.
    6) Review your mission plan several times during the year. Celebrate progress. Make adjustments. Consider new opportunities God is providing.
